Darlene S
Community Housing Development Specialist
My work is driven by social justice and change. I bring experience in both housing and higher education, combining direct advocacy with systemic support.
In housing, I supported vulnerable populations as a Lead Case Manager and Housing Navigator III. In higher education, I promoted student success at Pacific Oaks College's CARE Center and Glendale Community College. Currently, as a Community Housing Development Specialist at Self Determined Futures L.L.C., I build partnerships to expand safe, inclusive, and affordable housing for individuals with developmental disabilities. I develop housing pipelines, navigate the Coordinated Entry System, and advocate for equitable access to housing by addressing systemic barriers.
My practical experience is grounded in my academic background. I hold a Master's and Bachelor's in Human Development with a concentration in Social Change, and I am a PhD candidate in Transformative Social Change, focusing on policy, service delivery, and systemic barriers.
Service guides my work. I have served as a Student Government Advisor and supported organizations such as Casa De Las Amigas and Interval House through crisis counseling and support groups. Receiving a presidential award and a community service scholarship motivates me to further empower others.
