Christina L
ASL Mentor/Coach
My name is Christina, but I go by Keena! My work focuses on education, accessibility, and advocacy. Being born *Deaf, I learned early on how essential these areas are; not only for individual success & happiness, but for equity and full participation in education, community, and everyday life!
I have worked in education as a paraprofessional and student assistant at my alma mater, California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where I earned my BA in Psychology. I am currently pursuing my MA in School Counseling to further strengthen my research, advocacy, and professional skills. I have also supported families as a Family Mentor and currently work as an ASL Trainer, continiuing my commitment to advocating for Deaf & disabled youth & adults.
One way I do this is by teaching ASL to families of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. Language deprivation and misconceptions about Deafness can have lifelong impacts, and I am passionate about helping families build strong, accessible communication from the start. I believe that with genuine support, care, and resources, people can thrive. I am thrilled to continue that journey here at Self-Determined Futures!
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy traveling, photography and videography, creating art, trying new recipes, spending time in nature (especially picnics), playing video games, roller-skating (even though I’m not good at it)! Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me!
*Deaf (capital D) refers to individuals who identify as part of the Deaf community and culture.
