Carina R

Deaf+Communication and Support Specialist

I am passionate about supporting and advocating for Deaf, Blind, and Hard of Hearing individuals. I speak English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL), and I understand the importance of communication access and connecting with people in the language they feel comfortable using. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from California State University of Northridge (CSUN), as well as a degree in Psychology and Behavior Science from Oxnard College. My education, combined with my personal experience, has strengthened my understanding of people and families, communities, and the barriers an individual may face when accessing services and resources.

Through my work, I have supported Deaf individuals and families with navigating community resources, social services, healthcare, benefits, and other systems. I am passionate about advocacy, building trust, and helping people feel heard, supported and empowered.

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, shopping, and spending time with the people I love. I also love making people laugh and bring a little joy and positivity whenever I go. I believe that a good sense of humor and a genuine connection can make a big difference in people's lives.

I am excited to bring my education, lived experience, and passion to the Deaf+Communication and Support Specialist role.
